Energy workshop with the Lycée Robert-Schuman Luxembourg

On the 20th and 21st of June, students from RSL (Lycée Robert-Schuman Luxembourg) participated in our energy workshop as a part of their science project week. It was a dense two-day full immersion, but it was well worth it! In the picture, Phil & Bob exchange opionions with them.

Energy workshop with a class from Lycée Classique Diekirch

A class from the Lycée Classique Diekirch (with their teacher Jean-Claude Jung), consisting mostly of future economists (!) came to our workshop to find out more about renewable energies. The bike station was definitely their favourite one! Our tutor Paula agreed with them: in fact, she said that she would like to stick to supervising this station in the future as it is the most fun one!

Energy workshop with 7 different classes at Lycee Vauban Luxembourg

Aubin, Jeremy, Alessandro, and Maxime (and non-francophone Una as a moral and technical support) went to Lycee Vauban to deliver the short version of the workshop to 7 different classes. Here you can see some super cool photos with younger participants!

Training Day!

We are looking for you! In February, we had a training event to train additional workshop helpers to supervise the energy balance workshop. About 20 PhD students and postdocs from physics and engineering departments participated! It was a huge success in terms of participation & enthusiasm! Welcome folks! New trainers are now ready to welcome you at our next energy workshops! Don't miss the opportunity to know and talk with them.

Energy workshop with class 6E at the Lycée Aline Mayrisch Luxembourg

We were pleased to welcome at Campus Limpertsberg the 6E class from Lycee Aline Mayrisch Luxembourg. Students came together with their maths teacher (even mathematicians find our workshop interesting!) for our energy workshop. This was fun!

Can Luxembourg go 100% renewable?

Science Festival – Abbaye de Neumünster

The atmospheric Abbaye opened its doors to all the public! The public came to visit our stand N° 34 and learn more about renewable energies and climate crisis. A big thanks to Gilbert and Ed for upgrading our energy bike!

Science Festival – Abbaye de Neumünster

With the help of the University of Luxembourg’s photovoltaic cluster, the E4L team was present at the 2021 Science Festival explaining the principles of energy balance and investigating whether Luxembourg can indeed go 100% renewable or not. This was facilitated by the new hands-on energy balance board game. Now you can “weigh” your energy! 12 school classes took part in our short form workshop. The board game idea was a team effort (Phillip, Michele, Ricardo, Joana), but the design and the in-house build was entirely made possible by Ricardo and Joana. They really did an outstanding job!

E4L in the news!!!

The national newspaper the Wort ran a front-page news article on the need for energy balance given the growing global warming and featured our website. For the full article click here.

Energy workshop with class 3IEC at the Lycée Michel Lucius

Alfredo, Michele, Phillip, and Una visited the class 3IEC of Solenn Bruneau to allow them to experiment with different types of renewable energy. The students could get hands on to see the effects of light intensity, wind speed and human strength on our ability to generate electricity.

Two of the students from this class wanted to find out more about the topic so they undertook a week-long internship at the university. Jasper visited us in August for his internship on solar cells (he visited photovoltaic labs of Profs Siebentritt and Redinger at the university…and of course Phil’s lab!). Eliott did a week long internship at Physics department in November with various physics research groups.

Energy workshop at the Lycee Robert Schumann

Una, Ricardo, Johannes, and Alfredo visited the 3CC class of Olivier Gauthier at Lycee Robert Schumann. We were very happy that we did not manage to activate the fire-alarm with our Stirling motor demonstration!

Energy workshop at LTA Ettelbrück

Conrad, Michele, Phillip, and Una visited the 3GSN class of Geoffrey Scharll to give the first hands on workshop featuring experiments of converting biomass to electrical energy, a human powered electricity generating bike, solar and wind energies. Two students from LTA also joined us later for a two-week long internship at the University of Luxembourg in October, where they had a chance to see the photovoltaic labs (LEM, LPV, and SPM) at the University, do some really cool experiments with solar cells together with researchers from the university, and learn more about renewable energies and carbon footprint at LIST.

Researchers’ Day

Max leads a science café discussion on energy consumption with the first audience participation quiz using paper and pen. Michele and Phil run around like crazy adding up peoples scores to give them a certificate at the end of the café. There must be a better way….if only we had an online app… lets go and talk to Alfredo.
